Product Review: Kikki.K Fuchsia Leather Personal Planner

Today, I received the Kikki-K Fuchsia Leather Personal Planner in the mail. I had ordered this online a couple of days ago. The shipping was pretty quick from Melbourne to Sydney, Australia. I was so excited to receive it this morning that I almost scared the delivery man when I jumped out of excitement. This is what planner addiction does to you :).

Here is my full and honest review of this planner.

Note: I have not been paid to do this review. I have purchased this planner myself and this is my personal opinion and review of this planner.

PACKAGING

This planner comes packaged in a beautiful White, Pink and Black Polka dots box with an elastic string  wrapped around the box and a little tag attached with the name of the product. It looks really chic and very girlie. This planner comes in a plastic sleeve and wrapped in a thin tracing paper. Packaging has been taken care of pretty well.

THE PLANNER

The planner is made out of leather. This particular planner comes only in the Large size. The colour of this planner is described as Fuchsia. In real it is a very nice shade of Pink but not Fuchsia at all. It is a beautiful bright Pink that is not Fluorescent or too bright that you would need sunglasses to look at it. The interior is lined using a Black fabric with White Polka dots that looks so pretty. It is such a nice contrast to the pink leather. The planner has a Clasp button closure with a gold "K" monogram detail on the button. There are four pockets, a zip pocket and a full length pocket where you could slide some stickers & notes and a small to do list notepad has been included on the left inside of this planner. On the right side interior, there is a pocket that holds a note pad that also comes with this planner. There is one fully elasticised pen loop on the right side of this planner.

It is a Large size Personal Planner and not a Time Planner. Therefore the inserts are different from the Time planner inserts. The inserts included in this planner are:

  1. Three Tab dividers i.e Calendars, Meetings and To Do
  2. Four Blank Tabs (Can be customised)
  3. 18 Month Perpetual Calendar
  4. To Do List
  5. Meeting Notes
  6. Note pages
  7. To Do List Notepad
  8. Lined NotePad
  9. Three Sticker Sheets (To customise tabs & pages)

FIRST IMPRESSIONS

What I Like

The colour of the planner is beautiful and nicely paired with the Black and White Polka dot fabric lining. I like the design of the planner i.e. the way the pockets are setup and the zipper pocket is placed etc. I also like the fact that it lays pretty flat straightaway. The tab dividers are nice, thick, and colourful that match well with this planner unlike the navy blue tab dividers used in the Kikki-K Mint Time Planner that were a total mismatch.

What I do not like

The quality of the product in terms of finishing details is where the problem lies. Here are a few pictures that reflect the problem areas that need improvement.

The White portion that is showing in the above picture is the fabric, which is Black and White on one side and full White on the other. The finishing error is what makes it look like this that we see here in the photo above.

The above photo is showing the back end of the clasp strap. The leather has been cut or slit to slide the strap inside and then sewn. However, it has been left looking unfinished. I have quite a few leather Filofax planners (Filofax used for comparison due to the popularity of the brand) and they all look perfectly finished.

I own three Kikki-K planners now (including this Fuchsia one) and many Filofaxes too. None of these planners (Filofax or Kikki-K) are inexpensive. These defects and imperfections may sound trivial but they are not so trivial when you are paying a lot of money to buy them. In my opinion Kikki- K should definitely pay a little more attention to the quality. Also, none of the Kikki-K planners smell of leather whereas all Filofax leather planners do smell deliciously of leather. Not smelling of leather has nothing to do with the quality but I like leather to smell like leather. It is a personal preference.

The other thing I kind of dislike are the stark White diary inserts. They don't look good at all! The quality of the paper just like Filofax ones is just average and thin. So I am not impressed with either of these two brands.

Overall, I like this planner and that is why I bought it. I am yet to start using it as I received it only this morning. But the early review is to help people who are interested in buying this planner. I love both Filofax and Kikki-K planners. I guess Kikki-K planners are lovely. They just need to pay a little more attention to detail when it comes to finishing and quality of these expensive products.

I hope this review has been helpful and please feel free to leave me comments, suggestions. And if you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask.

Thank you for taking out time to read this review

Have a lovely day!

  2. Thank you for the review. I really want to buy a planner in A5 from Kikki K, but I can not decide to buy this one or the mint green one. They are both beautiful in different ways.

    1. Hi Helen,

      Thank you so much for stopping by an dreading this review. If you are indecisive and would like to consider my opinion, then go for Mint one. The reason is it looks prettier and is close to being a perfect in terms of finishing. The Navy blue dividers are the only problem in the Mint planner but that you always make new ones and customise if you don't like the Navy ones like me. Hope this will help.
      Have a lovely day and please feel free to ask any questions that you may have.
      Cheers ;), Malini

  3. Hi
    Just a quick question I've seen the new designs of these that are about to be released on the Kikki K website and I was wondering if this is the same size as a filofax A5??

    Thanks, I love your blog!

    1. Hi Ruth,

      Thank you for visiting and loving my blog.
      Yes, this planner is equivalent of an A5 Size. Kikki-K Planners:
      Large=A5 (Filofax)
      Medium= Personal
      Small= Pocket

      So the A5 size Filofax inserts fit this kikki-k large planner
