Filofax Maldens :: Review & Setup

Hello Everyone!!

Let me start by first apologising to you all for being missing in action of over four months.

I am extremely sorry that I did not post anything on my blog in the past four months. But the truth is that I have been pretty busy finishing some designs for my Wedding Stationery Business that is soon to be launched. Yes, I am starting my own little business and I am definitely excited. It has taken a lot longer than I initially thought. I still have some work to do with the business setup and the website. But I promise I will not go missing this time. Most of the work heavy/ tedious work has been completed. So hopefully I should be able to launch my business soon and reveal to you all. Stay tuned for the launch announcement :)

Today, I thought I will share my experience of Hunting, Buying, Owning and Loving my Unicorn Planners - The Filofax Personal and A5 Ochre Maldens. So here is the story...

My crazy planner addiction began when I started watching planner related videos on Youtube. I just wanted ONE planner and that would have done the job. But No! I started buying planners one after the other and literally hoarding them. Needless to say, I love all of them. I sold the ones I didn't love as much. I used to see a lot of photos of the Filofax Ochre Maldens on Pinterest and Instagram. But back then I used to think that the Malden was not for me as it was too sober for me. I love bright colours, pastel colours. But Brown?? Ochre?? .... No! That was definitely was not my style. That is what I thought and I was completely wrong!! I started looking at more and more pictures of the Ochre Maldens and started drooling over them. It was late last year when my love affair for the Ochre Maldens grew stronger. I started looking for an Ochre Malden in Personal size to purchase. I kept looking for months and I never saw any in stock. Well, if you know me you would probably know that I don't ever buy second hand stuff.
Yes I know it is a problem. But that is how I am! I love to keep my belongings neatly and handle things with extreme care. So the OCD in me doesn't allow me to buy pre-owned things. Sad but true!

Then sometime in June this year, I finally found the Ochre Malden back in stock on the Filofax UK website. And guess what !! I bought both the Personal and A5 Ochre Maldens. I requested my lovely friend Instagram Bridgette (living in the UK) if should could kindly ship it to me and she agreed. YAY!! In a week or so, I had my beauties in my hands. I have seriously never felt so happy about purchasing, receiving, or touching any of my other planners like I felt for these Ochre Maldens. I straightaway realised these planners are my Unicorns. I have purchased a few planners after I received my Ochre Maldens but I can definitely say that everyday the love for my Maldens grows stronger. They have to be favourites.

So here is a short review:

Material, Colour  & Construction ::

The entire planner is beautifully handcrafted using natural and very soft Buffalo Leather.
The construction is quite flexible and therefore lays completely flat. Some people may find it a bit floppy as compared to some other Filofax Planners but it is so soft and honestly I quite enjoy the relaxed look and feel of this planner. So comfortable and nice to hold. These planners are made out of genuine soft leather and have a very Vintage look and feel. Therefore no two pieces are identical. But that is what makes these Maldens so unique and elegant. The Malden range of planners by Fiofax comes in a few other colours. But my one and only preference was always the Ochre colour Malden.

Features on the A5 size Ochre Malden ::

  • Rings :: Six 1" or 30mm rings
  • Left :: One large full length stitched pocket with two additional half stitched pockets and a zipped pocket. One Pen loop in full leather.
  • Right: stitched pocket to hold A5 notepad. Pen loop.

Features on the Personal size Ochre Malden ::

  • Rings :: Six 7/8" or 23mm rings
  • Left :: Four credit card pockets and One zipped pocket.
  • Right :: Stitched pocket to hold a notepad. One Pen loop in full leather.

Recently these planners have become available and are back in stock on a few websites like Filofax UK and Pens and Leather to name a few. If you like these gorgeous planners as much as I do, then do not wait. Grab one for yourself before they are gone or discontinued (who knows!!)

And here are a few photos that I shared on my Instagram account recently and I would like to share with you all today :

Filofax Chameleon A5 Black :: Camera Inspired

Pictures say a thousand words... So true! I am very visual person and I tend to learn things quicker that are visual than just text. That is probably the reason why I love to illustrate. I love photography. My siblings and I grew up posing for my dad's photographs for his awesome photo album collection that he has. Unfortunately I haven't inherited my dad's superb photography skills. But I would like to learn it one day...soon :)
My weekly decoration is inspired by Camera and I have used my Filofax Chameleon A5 Black this week.

Filofax Chameleon A5 Black :: Tiger Inspired Week

Hello Everyone!

It has been a few weeks since my last post. I am really sorry for not posting! The reason is that I have actually been very busy doing some serious designing stuff for my Wedding Stationery business that required a lot of time and attention. I also have a music event coming up in the first week of July where my brother and I will be singing for around four hours non-stop. Yes, it is just two of us. So, there is a lot of preparation and practice that goes into it. After all practice makes perfect you see :)

It is hard to believe that I went without decorating my planner/s for almost four weeks. But I don't want to see blank pages anymore. I love looking at decorated pages that keep me going and help me stay motivated.

This week I decided to go with a "Tiger" theme. Tigers are so cute and majestic at the same time. And the tiger cubs - they are so cute and cuddly. I just wish... I could have tiger cubs for pets. Well, it doesn't sound all that feasible:). Tiger is the National Animal of India. The beautiful stripes on their body is a classic example of finding "Colour Combination" ideas and inspirations from mother nature.

Filofax Chameleon A5 Black :: Clothes Inspired

This week, I am using my Filofax Chameleon A5 Black and the decoration is inspired by clothes. I love buying new clothes but I do not enjoy doing the laundry. But whether I like it or not, its a task that has to be done. There is no choice! I dont iron my clothes either. My sweet husband has kindly accepted to iron my clothes along with his own. How sweet!! ;) But I absolutely love folding clothes. I find it so relaxing :)

Filofax A5 Chameleon in Black :: Zebra Inspired

This week, I decorated my planner pages inspired by the beautiful animal Zebra. I love the pattern on their body. It is such an eye catching pattern that has increasingly gained popularity in fashion, stationery and many other industries.

When I look at Zebras and their Black & White patterned body, I think of honesty; being Black & White. I like to be Black & White about my thoughts, my opinion etc. It leaves no room for confusion. I picked a lovely quote on "Truth" by Mahatma Gandhi for this week.

Here are some photos of my decorated pages:

Planning :: My Top 7 Planning Must Haves

Today, I wanted to share with you all my top seven planning essentials. These are the items that I use in my everyday planning.

Here is a list of the seven staple items that I use:

1 :: A Craft Mat
It is great when you are cutting and pasting stuff. You can keep your craft table and planner
scratch proof too.  I have a big craft mat and I don't start my planning until I lay the mat for protection.

2 :: Sticky Notes and Sticky Tabs
I use these all the time for extra notes, making lists and of course for decoration.

3 :: Hole Punch
This tiny little tool comes in handy when the washi tape overlaps the hole and you have to re-punch the pages.

4 :: Adhesive
The sticky notes and sticky tabs don't adhere well at times. Some sort of adhesive is always good to have on hand.

5 :: Pens
We all planner addicts love our pens and I am no exception. For my planning, I use only the pens I bought from Jetpens. These are the Pilot Frixion Erasable Pens 0.7mm, Pilot Frixion Erasable Markers, Pilot Frixion Erasable Ball Slim 0.38mm. Because these pens are all erasable, I don't worry if I make errors. Also they don't bleed. I love these pens! Specially the Pilot Frixion Erasable Markers and Pilot Frixion Erasable Ball Slim 0.38mm.

6 :: Scissors or Cutting Knife
I use small scissors or cutting knife mainly to cut the washi tapes to size. Sometimes I use scissors to cut horizontal sticky notes into a particular shape.

7 :: Washi Tape
Last but not least. My favourite accessory of all times. I am severely addicted to washi tapes. I use washi tapes in every single page of my planner decoration. Its official now, that I cannot plan without Washi Tapes ;D

You would have seen a lot of stickers in my decorated planner pages. Honestly, I can manage quite well without stickers. That is why stickers are not on the list. Here is an example of pages decorated without any stickers.

What are your planning must haves? I would love to hear from you.

Hope you enjoyed this post. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask.

Have a wonderful day!

Filofax Original Pink Fluoro A5 :: Dogs Inspired

This week I decided to use Dogs as inspiration to decorate my planner pages. I adore dogs! I have never had dogs or any other pets ever. I would love to have a dog or may be two dogs some day... very soon. May be a Beagle or a Labrador or a German Shepherd or a Jack Russell. I hope my hubby is reading this ;)

When I think of unconditional love, I think of two living beings; Dogs and My Parents. I know that sounds a bit strange but I am actually talking about the common quality of "Selfless Love" that Dogs and Parents share. They shower their love so unconditionally that it is hard to believe how selfless god made them. It is my mum's birthday on Sunday the 6th of April. I dedicate these pages to my mum; the best mum I could ever ask for and you too dad.

Happy Birthday Mum!!

Filofax A5 Chameleon Black :: Road Safety Inspired

Every time I am on the road I definitely get to see some reckless drivers driving as if they own the roads. It really disturbs me and actually worries me more than that thinking how could people be so insensitive. I just wonder why can't people just follow and obey the traffic rules? Yes, I am bit strict when it comes to following rules. The law and rules are there for a reason and how difficult is it to adhere to these rules. It could save many lives and their own. It is sad but true that there are many weird people out there that think that it is perfectly fine to break rules. They think texting while driving is cool and so is speeding and jumping traffic lights. Wish I could do something to help this situation..

This week, I decided to decorate my pages inspired by Road Safety. Here are a few photos:

Filofax A5 Chameleon Black :: Welcoming Autumn in Australia

After almost nine years of living here in Australia, it still feels strange thinking that the month of March is the beginning of Autumn season. Whereas it is Spring season in India where I grew up. How wonderful is this Northern Hemisphere and the Southern Hemisphere division and the entire universe that god has created. I must say that he (The Almighty) is the best designer ever!

Lately the weather has been very pleasant here in Sydney. I always thought that Spring was the only season that I loved. But No!, I realised that I actually love all seasons. I love the very fact that we have seasons to enjoy. I am actually loving Autumn. And to welcome Autumn, I decorated my pages in the Autumn inspired colour theme and added a few cute Squirrel friends. I miss the cute Squirrels & Sparrows that I used to see everywhere, everyday in India. Here are my photos dedicated to the cute Squirrel & Sparrow species :)

Kikki-K Planner :: Ballerina Girls Inspired

This week I am using my Kikki-K Mint and Gold Polka Dot Planner in the Large size. My birthday happens to be this week and I was thinking of a theme that I absolutely love. I wanted to make this week's pages special for obvious reasons and decided to go ahead with the Ballerina Girls theme. I knew that I wanted to do this theme for my birthday week. But there was a problem. I had no stickers, no paperclips to match the cute Ballerina Girls theme. So I decided to find the solution to my problem, be a little creative and make my own cute stationery from the supplies I had. I came up with a DIY Bookmark (Click here to see How-To Tutorial) and also made some Paper Clips. I punched some pattern paper and sticky notes using a floral punch that I bought from DAISO. I still thought there was something missing....The Stickers. Well I didn't have any Ballerina Girls stickers. Therefore I went ahead illustrated the Ballerina Girls on my Planner pages. I love illustrating!
And that beautiful quote by George Burns on that page- it is there specially for my birthday ;)

Here are some photos.

DIY : : How To Make Your Own Bookmark

A few weeks ago, I purchased some times from Yozocraft online. Most of those items were from the Ballerina Girls collection. I adore the cute girls. I simply loved every item that I had purchased and for that matter, I even loved the price tags. The tags were too cute to be thrown away into the rubbish bin. I started thinking of ways to use those cute little tags. Suddenly an awesome idea sparked up. So here are a few photos and DIY instructions of what I made.

BALLERINA GIRLS BOOKMARK FOR MY A5 SIZE PLANNER/s

Supplies ::

:: The Cute Price Tags
:: Card stock at least A4 size to match the colours of the tag ( I used pink card stock 12' X12")
:: Ruler
:: Cutting Knife
:: Pen or Pencil
:: Craft Mat
:: Scissors
:: A Punch (any shape that you like). I used a floral shaped one from DAISO
:: Glue stick
:: Hole Punch
:: Washi Tape/s of your choice ( I used only one)
:: Some embellishment of your choice ( I chose Pearls)

Have all your supplies ready before starting your DIY project.

I had five tags that I definitely did not want to throw away.
Don't you think they are cute?

      How To ::
  • Trim away the unwanted section in all the tags leaving just the illustrated part for use
  • Cut the card stock to size 7.5cm W X 24 cm H
  • Try playing with the placement of the tags on the card stock before gluing them on
  • Stick the tags on the card stock using craft glue in the order that you like
  • Stick Washi Tape on either sides (vertically) of the bookmark
  • Round the corners of the Bookmark
  • Embellish the bookmark. I chose pearls; I love pink colour paper and white pearls together
  • Create a punch on the very top of the bookmark using a punch of your choice
  • Punch holes in the bookmark to fit in your A5 Planner

This is how my bookmark looks. I love it.

Let me know if you re-created one of these.

And if possible, please leave a link to your creation in the comments.

Have a wonderful day!

Filofax Chameleon A5 Black :: Hello Kitty Inspired

It's raining continuously here in Sydney and I would say it is indeed the perfect time to decorate my planner pages and post blog. I am using my Filofax Chameleon A5 Black this week.

My inspiration and a little story behind it

I am sure I don't need to introduce you to this cute and extremely popular character by SANRIO ; the one and only "Hello Kitty". To be honest, I am not a big fan of Hello Kitty products.  I don't particularly like the Pink Hello Kitty stuff. But I just adore this Hello Kitty Voyage collection by Michael's Arts & Crafts in the U.S.

I went crazy when I saw a picture of this collection posted on a blog (cannot remember the name) back in May 2013 I believe. The Navy Blue and Red colour combination in that Voyage Sailor Theme caught my eye. I so desperately wanted to purchase the items from the collection but had absolutely no way I could get it as Michael's didn't ship internationally. I knew no one in the U.S at that time who could understand my craziness and buy the items for me. I was so disappointed and had pretty much accepted that I could not get any of these products.

Then one day my brother told me that he was visiting his friend in the U.S, and he asked me if I wanted something from the U.S. Did I hear it right? Yes I did! Of course I wanted something. And that something was from Michael's. I didn't wait too long and gave him a list; a very detailed list of the items. For obvious reasons, I was super excited. But that excitement did not last too long. Just two days after my brother reached the U.S., I looked up Michael's website and found that the Hello Kitty items were  no longer listed on the website. What??.... I really felt like crying. Once again I accepted the fact that I will not get the Hello Kitty stuff. Meanwhile my brother was busy at  his friend's wedding and was not contactable.

It was a couple of weeks before he returned to Sydney and I was obviously not expecting any items from Michael's to travel to Sydney along with my brother. Well No, I was wrong!! My brother called me and said that he got quite a few items for me from Michael's. I could not believe what I heard until he handed over the awesomeness to me. He picked up more than what I had asked for. He also mentioned that the Hello Kitty rack was almost empty when he went to Michael's. I cannot thank my brother enough for taking out time and getting the cute stuff for me.

Today I used a few items from that Hello Kitty Stash and here are some photos :)

GOODIES USED THIS WEEK:

Filofax Original A5 Fluoro Pink :: Winter Olympics Matryoshka Doll Inspired

Hello everyone! Hope you all have been doing well. I am sorry for not posting anything last week. I have been trying to make some changes to my daily routine and have been trying to adjust to those changes. I am trying to follow a strict time-table each day so that I can be on top of things rather than falling behind with everything and then catching up on everything at once. I am no where close to being perfect at this point. However, I am making a slow but steady progress each day. I realise that I work better when I have a time-table to follow. I hope to do a blogpost on "How I manage my day" in the near future. Let me know if you would be interested in reading.

This week I have used the "Matryoshka Dolls" as my inspiration to decorate the pages in my A5 Fluoro Pink Filofax. I love the Matryoshka Dolls. Matryoshka dolls are Russian dolls often confused with Babushka Dolls. Babushka dolls are not the same as Matryoshka Dolls. Babushka dolls are  supposed to be "Grandmother Dolls" :).  I have been wanting to use the Matryoshka Doll deco theme for months now but I kept pushing it. I really don't know why. Maybe, I was waiting for the perfect time - like now; the winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia. So here are a few photos.

GOODIES USED THIS WEEK:

  • Washi Tape - All purchased from ETSY (Various sellers on Etsy)
  • Pilot Frixion Slim pen Black 0.38mm  -  JETPENS
  • Pilot Frixion Erasable Markers  -  JETPENS
  • Heart Stickers -  ETSY
  • Matryoshka Doll Sticky Notes (on the righthand side page) - ETSY
  • Planner Inserts - Piaric (Facebook@Piaric)
  • Matryoshka Doll & Russian Cathedral Clips - I made these myself

Hope you enjoyed this blogpost and the photos. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask.

Have a wonderful day and Wish you all a very Happy Valentine's Day!
